Southern Miss pitchers Geoffrey Thomas and Johnathan Thompson have been suspended after being declared academically ineligible.
According to Southern Miss sports information director Jack Duggan, Thompson won’t be playing as long as the Eagles are playing this summer while Thomas is just temporary unavailable over these academic issues. Thomas could potentially be available by the end of the C-USA and NCAA Tournaments.
Thompson had a 7-1 record with a 3.49 ERA in 14 appearances (13 starts). Thomas went 10-3 with a 3.09 ERA in 14 starts. If the Golden Eagles lose either one of these guys for an extended period of time, the chances of them making the College World Series for the second time in three years goes down drastically.
