This season has never really caught a rhythm with all of the rainouts and cancellations of games but we are right at the finish line of the regular season. It seems as a short while ago I was writing about our indoor practices and a season full of optimism. Good thing for us we have had a pretty successful year on the diamond and it makes you not want to stop playing for a very long time. We have one game left in the regular season versus a very good UMass-Lowell team who we played earlier in the week and lost on a dramatic walk off homerun.
We will no doubt be energized playing them with hopes of redemption on our senior night. On this senior night we will say goodbye to 10 great Seniors. Brendan Barry, Aaron Lerma, Felix OSoria, Dan Steers, Sean Jarrett, Jarred Maddox, Tom Sirois, Harold Mejia, Alex Jahn and Ralph Dieguez who will not be easily replaced and these young men really have shaped the program to what it has become today and I could not be more happy then to see them go out as winners.
We will host a conference playoff game for the first time in school history it is a great honor to help bring us closer to our goal of a conference championship. The first game in the format is the single elimination game, survive and advance is more like it. Its always nerve racking to think that your season that you have worked so hard and prepared for could be over with one bad day. We will be preparing all week going over all of our fundamentals to get us back in the right mindset as prepare for our playoff opponent. Any time you reach the playoffs it’s a great honor and great for all of our younger players to experience this and to hopefully keep going back year after year. I think we have a great shot to go far in the tourney because of pitching, but our focus going into the tourney will be great. These guys have worked so hard all year for this time and I am looking forward to it.
Whatever happens it has been a great ride for these seniors, I feel like this is also my senior year because it is my fourth year with the program and to see this program grow is a special thing and I cannot thank these players or the players from my past four years for what they have given to this program, they have made it a special place to work and I am honored to be their coach. You can follow or playoff run or my antics on twitter @CoachRix8 see you next week.
