TCU’s Matt Purke has been shutdown for the time being with a shoulder injury as he visited famed orthopedist James Andrew this week. Purke’s velocity all season has been way down barely touching 90 MPH in some of his starts. Last season, he had an outstanding freshman season which saw him go 16-0 with a 3.02 ERA while bringing the Horned Frogs to the school’s first CWS appearance. CBD had Matt Purke rated as the second best college player coming into the 2011 season.
This is also interesting as Purke turned down a reported 4 million dollars out of high school to head to the college ranks. If there is a major injury in that shoulder, then he will not be able to come close to that sort of signing bonus in the upcoming 2011 MLB Draft.

I read an article on Baseball America the other day and they said Purke was 84-86 in 4th inning last Saturday and threw FB 82. Looks like the scouts had good reason to worry about that.
Mark saw him a few weeks ago and stated the same thingrnSent on the Sprintu00ae Now Network from my BlackBerryu00ae
So he actually probably got hurt when Mark saw him 2 weeks ago or start before that. Dam i bet he didnt say anything and tried to pitch thru it.
