WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue Board of Trustees today approved a contract to build a baseball stadium and make major upgrades to the women’s soccer complex. The projects are part of the Mackey Complex master plan that was approved in May 2007.

The $21 million baseball stadium, to be financed with athletics department funds, could eventually seat up to 2,500 spectators in the first phase of improvements to the Northwest Athletics Complex that includes the adjacent soccer facility. The intercollegiate baseball stadium will replace the existing 1,100-seat Lambert Field, which has been the team’s home since 1965.

“The quality of the new stadium’s field will help Purdue remain competitive in recruiting, while providing amenities to enhance the fans’ experience,” said Purdue athletics director Morgan Burke.

Trustees approved a $17.4 million construction contract with Indianapolis-based Shiel Sexton Co. Inc. The project is scheduled to be completed by April 1, 2012.
