According to the Yale Alumni Magazine, the university has decided to return a gift of one million dollars from John Mazzuto. The school is returning the money after Mazzuto was charged with stealing over 60 million dollars from Industrial Enterprises of America. The company, which is in bankruptcy, threatened to sue the university for the money but came to this agreement. Mazzuto, who is a 1970 graduate of Yale, donation went to endowing the head coach position and naming of a practice field.
Yale spokesman Tom Conroy stated that the school had “no knowledge of the fraudulent activities” and also stated that there was no decision on whether or not to keep Mazzuto’s name on the practice field and head coaching positions.
The Yale Daily News has an excellent rundown of the entire case.
