The Northeastern Huskies baseball team has released its 2011 schedule, announced as by head coach Neil McPhee.
Northeastern will play 56 total games starting with its annual trip to Ft. Myers, Fla., to compete against the Boston Red Sox on Feb. 26th.
After opening against the Red Sox, the Huskies will play nine games in seven days in Palm Beach, Fla. (Feb. 27-March 5). The trip includes a three-game set against St. Bonaventure (Feb. 28, March 1 and March 5), along with games against Western Michigan (March 3 and March 5) and northeast rival Rhode Island (Feb. 27 and March 4th). Northeastern will also play one game apiece against Florida Atlantic (March 1) and Florida International (March 2).
The Huskies will open up CAA play the following weekend at UNC Wilmington on Friday, March 11. Northeastern will be on the road quite a bit to begin the season as they look forward to playing four consecutive weekends on the road.
Three out of four of these weekends are CAA league games, along with a three-game set against Richmond during Huskies’ bye weekend from March 25 – 27.
After traveling to UNC Wilmington, Northeastern will head to Old Dominion (March 18- 20), Richmond (March 25- 27) and Towson (April 1-3) before opening up conference play at recently renovated Friedman Diamond in Brookiline, Mass. on Fri., April 8, against Hofstra.
The Huskies once again will have the opportunity to play in Fenway Park this year for the annual Beanpot tournament where they are slated to face off against UMASS in the first round. The date for this contest has yet to be determined but expectations are that it will be played the week of April 11.
