WASHINGTON, DC – George Washington baseball head coach Steve Mrowka announced that the Colonials will host 29 games at Barcroft Park in Arlington, VA, as part of a 56-game 2011 schedule. GW will start their season with a six-game road trip, visiting Georgia Southern, February 18th -20th, and Tulane, Feb. 25th -27th.
The Colonials will return to Barcroft Park on March 2nd to open their home schedule with a showdown with district rival Georgetown. The Colonials will visit GU’s Shirley Povich Field on March 15th.
GW will stay at home for 16 of the next 19 games, including three-game series with Iona and Marist. The Colonials also will host Binghamton (March 11 and 13), William and Mary and Central Connecticut State (March 12 in Annapolis and March 14) in that stretch.
The Colonials will take a quick two-game road trip to visit local rivals Maryland (March 22) and George Mason (March 23) before opening Atlantic 10 Conference play by hosting a three-game series with Massachusetts on March 25th-27th.
GW will close out the month of March with a visit to Charlottesville, VA, to take on No. four Virginia. The Cavaliers won 56 games in 2010 and finished the season ranked No. 8 in the Baseball America Top 25 Poll. .
Also on the home schedule are A-10 Conference games with Saint Joseph’s (April 1-3), Dayton (April 29-May 1) and Temple (May 19-21). GW also will host George Mason, Canisius and Maryland Eastern Shore at Barcroft Park this season.
Road A-10 opponents include Fordham (April 15-17), La Salle (April 21-23), Saint Louis (May 6-8) and Xavier (May 13-15).
GW will look to return to the Atlantic 10 Championship tournament at Campbell’s Field in Camden, NJ, March 25th-28th. The Colonials will look to capture their first A-10 Championship since 2002 and fifth title overall.
