KENNESAW, Ga. – Head Coach Mike Sansing and the Owls have announced the release of the 2011 baseball schedule that features 31 home games and includes visits to Stillwell Stadium by Georgia Tech, Georgia and Tennessee.
The Owls 56-game schedule will feature home-and-home games with both the Yellow Jackets and the Bulldogs and a first-time visit to campus by the Volunteers. The Black and Gold will play Tennessee on March 30 in a Wednesday evening game.
The schedule will also include home-and-home games with state rivals Georgia Southern and Georgia State. The Eagles will visit Stillwell Stadium on April 27 while the Panthers visit Kennesaw on March 23 with both games beginning at 6:00 p.m. The Owls travel to Statesboro on March 22 and on April 19 they travel to Panthersville to play Georgia State.
In addition, the Owls will play a trio of teams for the first time as Ball State, Harvard and Memphis all visit The Shake. Mid-American Conference member Ball State will help the Owls open up the season on Opening Weekend, Feb. 18-20, with Memphis also visiting campus during February for a three game series the following weekend.
“We have a very challenging schedule this season,” said Sansing. “Our home schedule features a number of national powerhouses along our normally tough A-Sun opponents including Jacksonville and Florida Gulf Coast.”
The Owls will play 31 home games including traditional doubleheaders with A-Sun rivals Campbell and USC Upstate. The Owls will also host their first ever, day-night twinbill on Mar. 16 when the Owls play host to Harvard at 1:00 p.m. before battling UGA in a 6:30 p.m. nightcap.
“The day-night doubleheader is a first for us,” added Sansing. “It’s odd for us to play two different opponents on the same day here, we have in the past on the road, but to be able to do it at our place is going to be a fun day for the university and our fans.”
The Black and Gold will host five A-Sun opponents at Stillwell Stadium beginning with Campbell on Mar. 4-5 and concluding with Jacksonville on May 19-21 to end the regular season. The Owls will also host Lipscomb, defending A-Sun regular season champions Florida Gulf Coast and USC Upstate.
