The CBB continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.
We continue the countdown today at number 70 with South Carolina sophomore infielder Christian Walker. He is from Limerick, Pennsylvania where he attended Kennedy-Kenrick High School. As a senior, he hit .588 his senior season which led to him being named to 2009 Philadelphia Inquirer All-S.E. Pennsylvania team. He was rated 88th best high school player in the country by PG Crosschecker as well as the No. 1 best high school player in the state of Pennsylvania. The LA Dodgers ended up picking him in the 49th round but were not able to come to terms with him.
He made an immediate impact into the South Carolina lineup as a freshman playing in 61 games (51 starts) hitting at a .327 average with nine homers and 51 RBI. He had an outstanding postseason helping to lead the Gamecocks to the 2010 College World Series title which led him to being named to the 2010 College World Series All-Tournament Team. He was named a Freshman All-American by Baseball America.
