Navy releases 2011 Schedule

PaulKostacopoulosNavyANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy baseball head coach Paul Kostacopoulos has released the 2011 schedule, a slate that includes 23 home dates for the Midshipmen. In all the Mids will play 54 games in 2011, including 15 doubleheaders.

The Midshipmen will open the season on Feb. 18, 2011 when they start a three-game series with Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C. Navy’s home opener will be March 2 at 2 p.m. against Coppin State.

Navy will host Central Connecticut State (Mar. 5-6) and Ivy League schools Yale (Mar. 19-20) and Princeton (Mar. 26-27) in non-conference four-game sets. Other non-conference opponents that appear on the 2011 schedule include: Maryland (Feb. 23), Air Force (Feb. 25-27), UMBC (Mar. 4), Towson (Mar. 9), Mt. St. Mary’s (Mar. 30), Georgetown (April 6 and 27), George Mason (April 13), Maryland Eastern Shore (April 19 and May 3) and Delaware State (May 4 and 11).

The 2011 conference slate will begin April 2 when the Mids travel to Lehigh. In addition to Lehigh, Navy will play conference opponents Army (April 9-10) and Holy Cross (April 23-24) on the road. Navy will meet defending league champion Bucknell (April 16-17) and Lafayette (April 30-May 1) in Annapolis.

The Patriot League’s top-four teams will advance to the conference tournament, which will begin May 14 when the top-two seeds host the lower-two seeds in a best-of-three series. The two advancing teams will meet at the higher remaining seed on May 21-22 for a best-of-three championship series
