Purdue to raise money for Breast Cancer

PurdueBreastCancerWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue intercollegiate athletics in conjunction with DS Wood is set to hold a “Take A Swing at Breast Cancer Home Run Derby” fundraiser all day Friday of the upcoming Homecoming Weekend on campus.

From 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. Friday, Purdue baseball will open Lambert Field for participants to help raise money for the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority for breast cancer education and awareness. October is breast cancer awareness month.

Individuals and teams of four are welcome to compete, comprising the two open divisions of the four divisions of competition. There will also be divisions for baseball alumni (individual) and fraternities (team). The cost to participate is $25 for individuals and $100 for teams. Each batter will receive 15 swings at the plate and a fundraiser T-shirt.
Former Purdue pitcher Allan Donato is the co-founder and CEO for marketing and sales of DS Wood, which is based in Hummelstown, Pa. More information about DS Wood is available at DSwoodbats.com.

Batters accumulate points for fair balls put in play on a scoring system of 10-point increments. Home runs are worth 100 points. The individuals and teams with the highest point totals are awarded prizes. The grand prize is a private party and prize pack courtesy of Brothers Bar and Grill.

Throughout the day, a silent auction will also be taking place at Lambert Field. Items to bid on will include signed memorabilia from numerous MLB and Minor League Baseball players and teams.
