Indiana Media Relations continues their series of interviews with freshmen pitchers Aaron Slegers and Ryan Halstead.
Slegers possesses a mammoth 6-foot-9, 245-pound frame and is still growing into his body. The righty hurler went 6-1 with a 1.32 ERA in his junior season for Notre Dame Prep, striking out 43 in 41 innings of work. As a senior, he threw just two innings due to growth issues, but struck out five of the six batters he faced. He helped the team to a state runner-up finish in 2009.
Halstead is still relatively early in his pitching career, but impressed scouts enough to be selected in the 36th round of the 2010 MLB Draft by the Houston Astros. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound righty threw just 9 2/3 innings for Los Osos in 2010, allowing eight hits and striking out nine with two walks. He was named to the Inland Valley All-Star Team as a first baseman in 2010.
