TaylorJungmannTexas The Texas Longhorns were scheduled to hold a nine inning scrimmage and scout day on Sunday afternoon at UFCU Disch-Falk Field but the game was shortened by rain.

The star of the day on the mound was junior RHP Taylor Jungmann who pitched two hitless innings while allowing a walk and striking out two batters. Junior LHP Andrew McKirahan was very good on the day also as he let up two hits in two innings of work but struck out five batters while picking off a baserunner. The other star on the hill was sophomore LHP Hoby Milner who retired all six batters he faced while striking out three.

The offensive side of things was led by freshman catcher Jacob Felts who went 2-for-3 with a double. Sophomore OF Cohl Walla who had one double and one RBI. Freshman outfielder Mark Payton had a triple and a walk in four plate appearances.

Coach Augie Garrido gave his take to TexasSports.com saying

“This is a good way to start our team workouts in the fall. The guys are able to go out there and knock the rust off before we get into the basics and the fundamentals tomorrow. It is also a good way to give the players exposure to the scouts which is one of the things we like to do. We want the players to know we’re not going to hide them. We’re going to do everything we can to help them with their baseball future if that is something they wish to pursue.”
