Five schools that played in last season’s NCAA Tournament are on the 2011 BYU baseball schedule.
TCU, New Mexico, Arizona State, Oregon and Washington State were part of the NCAA tournament last season.
“We are excited to announce our schedule for the 2011 season,” said BYU coach Vance Law. “Once again Coach (Bobby) Applegate has done a terrific job in scheduling some quality programs from outstanding conferences.
“We will be traveling to the Northwest three times to play Pac 10 teams, Oregon, Washington and Washington State. Again, we will log a lot of miles as we are on the road from the west coast to the Gulf of Mexico. I am very excited for our players to challenge themselves playing this tough non-conference schedule as well as our traditional Mountain West opponents.”
The Cougars open the 2011 season with a two-game series at Northwestern State in Natchitoches, La. The following week BYU plays in the four-game Texas Tech Tournament in a round robin with the Red Raiders and Northern Illinois.
BYU has an 18-game schedule at Larry H. Miller Field, including the home opener on March 24 with San Diego State and non-conference games with Gonzaga on May 9-10. The April 19 contest with the University of Utah in Provo is a non-conference game, while the Mar. 17-18 games with Utah in Salt Lake City open the MWC season.
