HOUSTON – University of Houston head baseball coach Todd Whitting completed his staff Monday when he announced the hiring of Steven Trout as the volunteer assistant coach.
Trout is the final addition to Whitting’s staff and will join Trip Couch and Jack Cressend, who were named assistant coaches. In his role as volunteer assistant coach, Trout will be the third base coach as well as coach the infielders and base runners. Trout will also serve as the Camp Director.
"Coach Trout is one of the up and coming coaches in Division I baseball," Whitting said. "He has been an integral part of winning programs both as a player and a coach."
"Because he is one of my former players, Steven is very familiar with the process of our program that we will develop at UH."
Trout comes to Houston after spending a season as the volunteer assistant coach at Texas State.
Prior to joining the Bobcats, Trout played two seasons at Texarkana Community College, earning All-Conference honors, before finishing his collegiate career at TCU. While with the Horned Frogs, Trout made all 62 starts as a senior at first base. He posted a .326 batting average, 55 runs and 44 RBI. In 2007, Trout was named to the Mountain West All-Conference Second Team and was an All-Regional selection at the Houston Regional.
Following his collegiate career, Trout played baseball with the Fort Worth Cats of the American Association before joining the Macon Music in the South Coast League. In April 2008, he joined the Kansas City T-Bones and was a member of the 2008 Northern League Championship team.
Trout then coached at the Stars Baseball Academy in Southlake, Texas, before joining the Bobcats staff.
Trout earned a bachelor’s degree in general studies from TCU in 2007.
