Here is your Cape Cod Baseball League Playoffs Recap for August 9th.
Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox 23 Orleans Firebirds 10
Orleans starting pitcher Martin Viramontes (Loyola-Marymount) had one of the worst pitching performances in recent memory on Monday evening in the Cape Cod Baseball League playoffs against the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox. He ended up lasting only 0.2 innings giving up nine hits, one walk, and ten runs (all earned) as the Red Sox cruised to the 23-10 victory to take a 1-0 series lead.
The offensive attack was led by Joe Panik (St. John’s) who went 4-5 with four runs scored on a homer and three RBI. Jordan Ribera (Fresno State) and Matt Jensen (Cal-Poly) also had strong days at the plate. Ribera went 3-4 with five runs scored, six RBI, and two walks while Matt Jensen went 2-3 with a run scored and 5 RBI.
The Orleans Firebirds also had a strong offensive game which was led by Maxx Tissenbaum (Stony Brook) as he 3-6 with a run scored and an RBI
Tommy Toledo (Florida) picked up the victory for Yarmouth-Dennis by going 5.2 innings giving up seven runs (five earned) on eleven hits and two walks.
Game 2 of the series will take place on Tuesday at Orleans as the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox look to end the series.
Cotuit Kettleers 6 Wareham Gatemen 2
Georgia’s Zach Cone and Baylor’s Joey Hainsfurther each drove in two runs to lead the Cotuit Kettleers to a 6-2 victory over the Wareham Gatemen in the first game of the Division Finals in the Cape Cod Baseball League.
Matt Andriese (Cal-Riverside) got the victory in relief as he pitched a scoreless sixth inning while Wareham starting pitcher Jack Armstrong (Vanderbilt) got the loss after giving up four runs (three earned) in six innings while giving up five hits and three walks.
