Here is your NECBL Playoff Recap for August 5th. The Newport Gulls defeated the North Shore Navigators 5-4 while the North Adams SteepleCats defeated the Danbury Westerners 4-2.
Newport Gulls 5 North Shore Navigators 4
The Newport Gulls scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and held off a late inning rally by the North Shore Navigators to pick up a 5-4 victory in the first game of the NECBL Eastern Division Championship Series. Derek Legg (Long Beach State) and Dan Gamache (Auburn) led the Gulls offensive attack. Legg went 2-3 with a run scored while Gamache went 2-5 with a run scored and an RBI. Pat Light (Monmouth) picked up the win for the Gulls pitching 5.1 innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on seven hits while walking two batters and striking out two. Nolan Corr (Wheaton College) got the loss after giving up five runs (three earned) on six hits, two walks, and two strikeouts in five innings. North Adams SteepleCats 4 Danbury Westerners 2
North Adams Cameron Kneeland (UMass-Lowell), Devin Shines (Oklahoma State), and Garrett Gray (Wright State) all had two hits to lead the SteepleCats attack as they defeated the Danbury Westerners 4-2. North Adams starting pitcher Stephen Rivera (St. John’s) got the victory giving up two runs on six hits while walking only one and striking out seven. Danbury starting pitcher Michael Anarumo (LeMoyne) got the loss after giving up four runs on five hits while walking four batters and only striking out one. (FULL BOX SCORE) The teams will be back in action on Friday when the Danbury Westerners will be hosting the North Adams SteepleCats at 6:30pm.
