The Texas Tomcats defeated the North Texas Copperheads 9-6 on Tuesday evening at Veterans Memorial Park in Weimar. The Tomcats scored single runs in the first three innings to take an early 3-0 lead. Kevin Mihalik hit a solo home run in the first, Relly Mercurio had an RBI single in the second, and Eric Garcia had a sacrifice fly in the third.
The Copperheads got on the board in the top of the 4th on a solo home run by Matt Shortall off of Tomcat’s starter Casey Grayson. The Tomcats scored two in the bottom of the 4th on a two-run single by Collin Hetzler. The Copperheads got RBIs from Sam Wernick and Jason Krizan in the top of the 5th to make the score 5-3. The Copperheads added a solo home run in the top of the sixth from Zac Russell before Troy White of the Tomcats scored on a past ball in the bottom of the frame to make the score 6-4. In the bottom of the seventh, the Tomcats scored a run on an RBI double by Kevin Mihalik and two more on an error by the Copperheads shortstop with the bases loaded. The Copperheads scored one more run in the top of the 8th on back-to-back errors on dropped fly balls by the Tomcats and also added another run in the top of the ninth on another dropped fly ball to make the final score 9-6 Tomcats. The Tomcats improved to 15-14 overall and 3-2 in the second half while the Copperheads fell to 10-17 overall and 2-2 in the second half. The Tomcats will return to action on Friday when they host the Victoria Generals starting at 7:05pm.
