Coca Cola Pitcher and Player of the Week
COCA COLA PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Wareham comeback kid Max Perlman (Harvard) has secured this week’s Coca Cola Pitcher of the Week award for his performance against Brewster.
Perlman pitched six shutout innings and left the game with a 1-0 lead. Although the bullpen could not hold the lead, his nine strikeouts and two hits surrendered were enough to earn him this week’s award.
The 6-7 right-hander showed plenty of promise in his first season as a member of the Crimson, earning All-Freshman third team honors. An elbow injury in his first start as a sophomore derailed his second season and much of his junior year, but his success this summer indicates that he has returned to form.
He is also a Cape League veteran. He pitched well enough for the Gatemen in 2008 to be selected as an All-Star alternate before his injury.
COCA COLA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Aaron Westlake, Chatham 1B
Chatham’s Aaron Westlake (Vanderbilt) has slugged his way to being named Coca Cola Player of the Week.
Westlake hit .563, with a .625 on-base percentage and two home runs.
Because of the depth of Chatham’s roster, he has not logged enough at-bats to qualify him for a place among the league batting leaders. If he had, his .357 season average would trail only Brewster’s Drew Martinez.
Westlake, a sophomore, followed up his Freshman All-America rookie season with a team-high 14 homers and a .308 batting average. He finished second on the team in runs scored, RBI, and slugging percentage.
