With summer league baseball a few weeks in, the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League is awarding this weeks’ top players. The GLSCL recognizes John McCambridge from the Licking County Settlers as player of the week, and Eric Vaughan from the Lake Erie Monarchs as pitcher of the week.
McCambridge, from Xavier University, has a .531 batting average; 3 doubles; 4 runs batted in and 5 stolen bases for this past week. Currently, McCambridge leads the league with a .508 batting average overall, and has been quoted by the Settlers as “nearing one of their best players of all-time.” The Settlers and McCambridge will play the Lima Locos tonight at 7 p.m. at Simmons Field in Lima, Ohio.
Vaughan was chosen for pitching 17 innings last week with a 2-0 record, striking out 10 and having an ERA of 1.58. For this season, Vaughan is 3-0 with a 1.31 ERA, has pitched 20.2 innings with 21 hits, eight walks, and has struck out 13 batters. Vaughan and the Monarchs play tomorrow at 7:15 p.m. against Grand Lake Mariners at Westview Park in Celina, Ohio.
