FROM CCBL RELEASE

RanaudoLSU COCA-COLA PITCHER OF THE WEEK:
Anthony Ranaudo, Brewster RHP
Brewster flamethrower Anthony Ranaudo (LSU) has been named Coca-Cola Pitcher of the Week after posting 10.2 shutout innings over two appearances.

In his first start, a no-decision against Bourne, the 6-7 Ranaudo surrendered one hit over four innings. His second appearance was even more impressive. In a win over Wareham, he again surrendered only one hit, this time striking out eight Gatemen over 6.2 innings.

Ranaudo comes to the Cape League with plenty of hype. He was slated to play for Y-D last season and was also courted to play for Team USA, but did not appear for either after the College World Series.

His 2009 stats at LSU —- 12-3, 3.04 ERA, 159 strikeouts in 124.1 innings —– made him arguably the top college pitching prospect in the nation entering 2010. An elbow injury derailed Ranaudo last season, but he was still selected 39th in this year’s Major League Baseball draft by the Boston Red Sox.

COCA-COLA PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Travis Shaw, Bourne 1B/DH TravisShawKentState

Bourne slugger Travis Shaw (Kent State) has secured this week’s Coca-Cola Player of the Week award after putting together a stretch of four games that any Cape Leaguer will be hard-pressed to match this season.

Shaw hit .714, with a .775 on-base percentage, slugging two home runs and knocking in seven runs.

He batted .330 in his sophomore season at Kent State, with 15 home runs. Shaw was taken in the 32nd round of the 2008 Major League Baseball draft out of high school by the Red Sox, but elected to attend Kent State.
