Josh Spence pitched well tonight in 2 innings of work for the Cotuit Kettleers, giving up one unearned run while surrendering three hits and striking out five batters. Spence earned a no-decision for the effort against the Chatham Anglers. The possibility of Spence taking a medical redshirt was floated out there by Jeff Metcalfe of the Arizona Republic, but it looks like with tonight’s appearance, Josh is leaning towards signing with the Padres. If tonight’s work wasn’t evidence enough, Spence was quoted in the Geelong Advertiser as saying:
“I’ll just get healthy and try and pursue that opportunity out there and then hopefully everything works out with the Padres and I’ll be wearing a Padres uniform in a short time.”
Sounds like he’s going to be working out the nerve issue in his elbow as he pitches and could reunite with Pat Murphy back in San Diego, that is if Murphy doesn’t get a job coaching elsewhere.
