AUSTIN, Texas–TCU earned the first College World Series appearance in school history Sunday with a 4-1 victory over No. 2 seed Texas in the final game of the best-of-three Super Regional.
Kyle Winkler pitched 7 2/3 scoreless innings to earn the victory, allowing only five hits while striking out six.Tyler Lockwood, who broke the TCU record for career appearances with his 86th Sunday, pitched the final 1 1/3 innings to record the save.
The Frogs took a 1-0 lead into the seventh inning before Aaron Schultz provided some cushion with a big two-run home run off UT closer Chance Ruffin, who had allowed only two homers all season entering Sunday. Bryan Holaday drilled another bomb, this time a solo shot, off Ruffin in the bottom of the eighth inning to put TCU up 4-0.
