Charlottesville Regional Recap for Day 1

Virginia 15 VCU 4

CHARLOTTESVILLE – In the opening game of the Charlottesville Regional, Virginia defeated VCU 15-4 on Friday at Davenport Field. The Cavaliers, the No. 5 national seed, totaled 15 runs on 16 hits as they opened regional play with a win for the fourth time in the past five years.

Virginia will meet Ole Miss at 6 p.m. Saturday. VCU will play St. John’s at 1 p.m. Saturday in an elimination game.

Ole Miss 10 St. John’s 5

CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Ole Miss Rebels defeated St. John’s 10-5 in the second game of the opening day of the Charlottesville Regional. Mississippi used three home runs and strong outing from ace Drew Pomeranz to top the Red Storm.

Taylor Hashman went 2-for-3 with two RBIs to lead the Rebels offensively.

Pomeranz allowed to runs on seven hits in seven-plus innings of work to record the win, improving to 9-2 on the season. Kyle Hansen took the loss for St. John’s, falling to 8-2 on the year.
