Southern Miss 19 Jacksonville State 6

AUBURN, Ala. – Southern Miss scored 19 runs on 18 hits to win its second round game over Jacksonville State 19-6 Saturday afternoon at Plainsman Park in Auburn, Ala.

While the Golden Eagle hit three, three-run home runs on the afternoon and missed a school record for runs in a NCAA game by one run the story of the game was not the offense. That honor belongs to junior closer Collin Cargill. The Hattiesburg native is no stranger to closing games, he has finished off 48 games in his career as a Golden Eagle, but none of them like today.

Southern Miss starting pitcher Todd McInnis lasted only one inning before surrendering two runs and leaving the game. Reliever Ryan MacNamara lasted just two-thirds of an inning before exiting, so just five outs into the game coach Scott Berry went to Cargill and he did you what he has done all season long, dominate his opponent and finish the game.
