Texas A&M 17, Florida International 3
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Texas A&M bats exploded for season highs in hits, runs and home runs and Barret Loux tossed eight strong innings to lead the Aggies to a 17-3 win over FIU in the NCAA Coral Gables Regional opener Friday afternoon at Alex Rodriguez Park.
A&M (41-19-1) fell behind after the Panthers (36-24) scored a first-inning run, but Joe Patterson launched a two-run homer in the bottom of the frame and the bats would score in all but one inning from that point on to lead the Aggies to their seventh straight win.
Miami 12, Dartmouth 8
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The 11th-ranked and top-seeded University of Miami baseball team hit four home runs – including three three-run blasts – to pick up a 12-8 win over No. 4 seed Dartmouth Friday afternoon at Alex Rodriguez Park.
Miami (41-17) jumped out to a big lead early on, scoring six in the first, one in the second, one in the third and three in the fourth before eventually picking up the four-run win. The Hurricanes will now play No. 2 seed Texas A&M Saturday at 4 p.m. Left-hander Chris Hernandez (8-3, 3.02 ERA) is slated to start for the `Canes while Texas A&M will counter with righty Ross Stripling (6-3, 3.80 ERA).
