2010 NCAA Regional Previews: Auburn (AL)

AuburnRegional The Auburn Tigers will be hosting an NCAA Regional this season which features the number 1 seeded Auburn Tigers, number 2 seeded Clemson Tigers, number 3 seeded Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles, and number 4 seeded Jacksonville State Gamecocks.

Auburn (40-19 overall, 20-10 SEC)

The Auburn Tigers enter the weekend with a 40-19 overall record while being 20-10 in the SEC. The Tigers went 1-2 in the SEC Tournament as they lost to Alabama 7-1 and Ole Miss 10-7 while defeating South Carolina in between those two games by a score of 3-1 in 12 innings. They have a team batting average of .348. They are led on offense by Hunter Morris who is hitting .392 with 21 homers and 70 RBI. Brian Fletcher is right behind Morris with 20 homers and 70 RBI while hitting .359. The Auburn pitching staff has a staff ERA of 4.78 as they are led by starting pitcher Grant Dayton who is 8-2 with a 4.22 ERA. Austin Hubbard holds down the backend of the bullpen with a 5-2 record with a 1.96 ERA while picking up nine saves.

Clemson (38-21 overall, 18-12 ACC)

The Clemson Tigers enter the NCAA Regionals with a 38-21 overall record while being 18-12 in the ACC Atlantic Division which they won. The Tigers went 1-2 in the ACC Tournament losing to NC State and Virginia Tech before defeating Georgia Tech in the final game. The offense for Clemson has a team batting average of .305 with 98 stolen bases in 120 attempts. They are led in batting average by Brad Miller who is hitting .373 with seven homers and 37 RBI. Kyle Parker is the biggest power threat as he is hitting .364 with 19 homers and 57 RBI. The pitching staff has a team ERA of 4.81 while Casey Harman is the best starting pitcher as he is 6-2 with a 4.14 ERA. Tomas Cruz leads the bullpen with three saves but has a 3-2 record with a 5.40 ERA.

Southern Miss (35-22 overall, 14-10 Conference USA)

The Southern Miss Golden Eagles are looking at making their second straight College World Series this season as they head down to Auburn, Alabama for the Regionals. They have a 35-22 overall record while going 14-10 in Conference USA. They have a team batting average of .323 while hitting 71 total homers. B.A. Vollmuth leads the team with a .378 batting average while hitting 18 homers and 68 RBI which are all team highs. They have a team ERA of 5.73 while being led by Scott Copeland who is 11-0 with a 3.38 ERA in 14 appearances (13 starts) with two complete games. Collin Cargill leads the team with nine saves and went 3-2 with a 1.86 ERA.

Jacksonville State (32-24 overall, 15-8 Ohio Valley)

The Jacksonville State Gamecocks will stay in the state and head over to the Auburn Regional. They are 32-24 overall while going 15-8 in the Ohio Valley Conference. In the conference tourney, they went a perfect 3-0 to get the automatic bid to the NCAA Tourney. Bret Smith leads the team in hitting at .371 average while driving in 39 runs. CCBL All-Star Todd Cunningham is second on the squad with a .352 average with ten homers and 39 RBI. Austin Lucas is the best starting pitcher on the staff as he is 6-0 with a 4.97 ERA as the team has one of 6.60. Alex Jones leads the team with six saves as he is 1-6 with 3.60 ERA in 27 appearances.
