Here is your 2010 Big East Tournament Recap for Day 1 of action from Clearwater, Florida.

#9Baseball v KENTUCKY Louisville 11 West Virginia 4

CLEARWATER, Fla.Keyed by sophomore second baseman Ryan Wright’s game-winning three-run homer in the seventh, the ninth-ranked Louisville baseball team scored 10 unanswered runs during the final three innings to earn an 11-4 victory over West Virginia on Wednesday in the first round of the 2010 BIG EAST Championship at Bright House Field.

With the win, top-seeded Louisville (47-10) will face No. 4 seed St. John’s, a 3-2 first round winner over USF, on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET at Bright House Field in a second round game, while No. 8 WVU (27-29) will face No. 5 USF on Thursday at 5 p.m. ET in an elimination game.

#18 UConn 9 Cincinnati 6

CLEARWATER, Fla. – Billy Ferriter tripled in the bottom of the seventh to put the Huskies ahead by one as the University of Connecticut baseball team went on to defeat Cincinnati 9-6 in the Huskies’ first game of the 2010 BIG EAST Baseball Championship at Bright House Field in Clearwater, Fla.

With the win, UConn will advance into the winner’s bracket and will face sixth-seeded Rutgers on Thursday, May 27 at 1:00 p.m.

Ferriter’s team-leading fifth triple of the year scored Joe Pavone from first to give UConn (44-12) a 7-6 lead before the redshirt freshman scored on sacrifice fly by John Andreoli to put the Huskies ahead by two.

St. John’s 3 South Florida 2

CLEARWATER, Fla. – After Kyle Hansen allowed just one run in 8.0 innings of work, St. John’s won in walk-off fashion for the sixth time this season as Sean O’Hare gave the Red Storm a 3-2 win against USF with a one-out single in the ninth. Hansen surrendered just three hits, while striking out eight batters to lead St. John’s (37-18). O’Hare was 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Matt Wessinger was 2-for-3 with a home run and Joe Panik was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Stephen Hunt and Todd Brazeal had an RBI each for USF (25-31), while Randy Fontanez (5-7) allowed three runs and had eight strikeouts in 8.0 innings.

USF took an early 1-0 lead with a run in the first inning. After striking out the lead off batter, Hansen plunked Jonathan Koscso before Hunt followed with a one-out RBI double into right field.

Rutgers 9 Pittsburgh 5

CLEARWATER, Fla. (May 26, 2010) – The Rutgers baseball team scored nine runs in the first two innings and never looked back as the sixth-seeded Scarlet Knights upended third-seeded Pittsburgh, 9-5, Wednesday morning in the opening round of the BIG EAST Baseball Championship at Bright House Field in Clearwater, Fla.

Rutgers advances to face No. 2 seed Connecticut Thursday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. The Huskies defeated No. 7 seed Cincinnati, 9-6.

The victory improved the Scarlet Knights to 29-24 overall and marked their fifth-straight victory in the BIG EAST Championship. RU won four consecutive games to capture the 2007 league tournament title in their last postseason appearance.
