We are now 10 days away from Selection Monday. Here are some of my random thoughts as we enter the last day of conference action for many teams across the country.
Every year about this time of the season I start to tire on the college game as it is such a long season. I just wait for that moment to recharge my energy and tonight that event happened. Holy Cross blew a three run lead in the top of the ninth inning while also giving up the lead to the Bison heading to the bottom of the ninth. HC would get a two out single to tie up the game by Eric Oxford and Steve Tkowski would hit a fly ball to right field which was lost in the lights allowing the winning run to score in front of a raucous crowd. You can check out my full recap of the game by clicking here and my Live Blog I ran during the game by clicking here. I will be running a Live Blog during Games 2 and 3 on Saturday on this site.
Kentucky and Pittsburgh likely played themselves out of the NCAA Tourney on Friday with some very bad losses. Kentucky was absolutely blown out by Georgia 20-0 as the Bulldogs picked up their first SEC conference series victory of the season and have an SEC record of 5-22. Pitt lost a doubleheader to South Florida on Friday night by scores of 7-3 and 14-12. Kentucky will definitely miss the NCAA Tourney and Pitt is going to need a good showing in the Big East Tourney to improve the RPI.
Oakland University junior LHP Aaron Wick pitched a seven inning no-hitter over Southern Utah on Friday night. He walked three batters while striking out five to pitch the fifth no-hitter in the school’s history and the first since the school joined Division 1.
