I made the trip into Chestnut Hill on Friday, May 21st for the second game of the Boston College and Georgia Tech series from Shea Field. BC would send junior RHP John Leonard to the mound as he was 2-2 with a 6.04 ERA in six starts. GT countered with Mark Pope who had a 7-1 record with a 4.13 ERA.
“The game remained scoreless until Georgia Tech scored two runs in the third inning on an RBI single by Derek Dietrich and a sacrifice fly by Tony Plagman. BC cut the lead in half in the bottom of the third on Robbie Anston’s RBI single through the left side to cut the GT lead to 2-1. GT scored another two runs in the fourth inning on a Jacob Esch RBI single and Tony Plagman’s RBI walk to extend the Yellow Jackets lead to 4-1. BC bounced back in the bottom of the fourth with Anthony Melchionda’s double to start the inning. He came around on a Matt Watson groundout to cut the GT lead to 4-2.
BC tied the game in the bottom of the fifth when Mickey Wiswall hit a hanging breaking ball over the right center field fence for a two run homer, his 18th of the season, to tie the game at 4. GT regained the lead in the top of the sixth inning thanks to a bases loaded wild pitch. They scored single runs in the 7th and 8th innings to expand the lead to 7-4 and BC completed the scoring with a run in the bottom of the 8th but couldn’t get closer then that as GT won 7-5.”
