Pending approval of the Presidents of Conference USA, their annual baseball tournament will move to the neutral site of Trustmark Park in Pearl, Mississippi. The tournament had previously been hosted by teams in conference, and will be held in Houston this season. Conference USA athletic directors voted on the move during the spring meetings this week, and the move is pending approval in June. Most of the other "big" conferences hold their end of season tournaments at neutral sites.
The Conference USA baseball tournament will be played at a neutral site for the next three years – Trustmark Park in Pearl.
C-USA athletic directors voted in favor of the move during this week’s spring meetings. The matter must still be approved by all Conference USA presidents at their annual meeting in June.
Southern Miss athletic director Richard Giannini released this statement regarding the move:
"During this week’s Conference USA Spring meetings in Destin, athletic directors voted to move the C-USA Baseball Tournament to the neutral site of Trustmark Park in Pearl for the next three years. This decision is pending approval of the C-USA Presidents at their annual meeting in early June.
If approved, Trustmark Park will be the host site of the tournament beginning with the 2011 tournament and the agreement will run through 2013. The committee accepted a proposal from Spectrum Sports and Yates Construction to provide the venue, logistical support and park accommodations for all incoming baseball teams. Trustmark Park is also attractive due to its centralized location and convenient access to highway and airport facilities. We are happy to see member institutions choose a neutral site in the state of Mississippi, and look forward to a great atmosphere for this event."
