The second coaching change in the Mountain West conference has come today with the announcement that UNLV head coach Buddy Gouldsmith will not have his contract renewed for next season. Goulsmith has been the Rebels head coach since the 2004 season as he has a career record of 200-211 entering into action on Tuesday night. According to the press release, UNLV will conduct a national search for a new coach. It should be interesting to see who gets this position in the coming months as the expectations in the Mountain West Conference has risen with the success of TCU. LAS VEGAS – UNLV baseball head coach Buddy Gouldsmith’s contract will not be renewed following the 2010 season, Athletics Director Jim Livengood announced Tuesday.
Gouldsmith, who is finishing his seventh year leading the program, will coach the remainder of the season for the Rebels. The sixth head coach in UNLV history, Gouldsmith was promoted on June 9, 2003, after serving as an assistant for two years with the Rebels. Gouldsmith has a career record of 200-211 (.487) entering Tuesday’s game against Cal State Northridge.
Livengood said a national search will begin immediately but he will not comment until the 2010 season is complete.
