WiseWSU WALNUT CREEK, Calif. — OREGON senior catcher Eddie Rodriguez has been named the Pac-10 Baseball Player of the Week and WASHINGTON STATE junior right-handed pitcher James Wise has been named the Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week for May 10-16, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.

Rodriguez, of Warden, Wash., led the No. 22 Ducks to a 4-0 record last week, including an upset of No. 19 San Diego and a weekend sweep of East Tennessee State. The senior catcher was remarkable at the plate going 12-for-18 for a .667 batting average. In four games, Rodriguez produced nine runs, scored five runs, hit two home runs, two doubles and capped off his weekend hitting for the cycle with a career-high four hits and personal-best five RBI in the 17-7 victory over ETSU on Sunday afternoon. He became the first Oregon player to hit for the cycle since reinstatement of the Ducks’ baseball program. Oregon’s 17 runs scored and 19 hits were the most by any team in the two- year history of PK Park. In Tuesday’s 13-4 upset over San Diego, Rodriguez went 3-for-4 with a home run, double and two RBI.

This marks the second Pac-10 Player of the Week honor for Rodriguez this season, second overall, and the second all-time Pac-10 Player of the Week selection for Oregon.

Making his second start in Conference play this season, Wise led the Cougars to a 4-2 upset victory over then-No. 25 Stanford on Saturday afternoon. The junior right-hander logged eight-shutout innings and recorded a personal-best, eight strikeouts. Wise, of Boise, Idaho, allowed four hits, one walk and allowed only two Cardinal base runners to get past first base. With the win, Washington State defeated a nationally-ranked opponent for the 10th time this season. On the season, Wise is 2-1 with a 4.20 ERA in 11 appearances. He has tallied 29 strikeouts in 40.2 innings of work for the Cougars.

This is the first career Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week honor for Wise and the 32nd all-time Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week selection for Washington State.
