Should Bryce Harper Win the Golden Spikes Award?

16nationals_CA0-articleInline Assistant editor Mark Rafferty sent me a message asking if Bryce Harper was going to win the Golden Spikes award. My first response to him was that there was no way that a junior college player would win the Golden Spikes award. Come to find out, Alex Fernandez picked up the Golden Spikes award in 1990 out of Miami-Dade Community College.

My question to you is should Harper be eligible for the award and would you vote for him? He has appeared in 58 games this season hitting .415 with 23 homers and 68 RBI while slugging at a ridiculous .891 clip, all of this while hitting with the wood bat. He has even been a threat on the basepaths as he has 17 stolen bases in 21 attempts. I think these numbers are off the chart and when my ballot comes in for the Golden Spikes Award, I will have Harper first. What would you do?
