Purdue maintained a share of the Big Ten lead with an 8-2 win at Illinois on Friday evening. The Boilermakers got big innings late in the game with a four-run sixth and a three-run eighth, led by Eric Charles and Kevin Plawecki, who both had a pair of RBI. Charles went 1-for-4 with a double, while Plawecki was 2-for-4 with his eighth home run. Matt Bischoff picked up his ninth win of the year in a complete-game effort, allowing two runs on six hits and no walks with six strikeouts. Lee Zerrusen was tagged with the loss. Josh Parr led the Illini at the plate, going 1-for-3 with an RBI triple.
MICHIGAN STATE def. INDIANA, 9-8

Chris Roberts hit a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to propel Michigan State to a 9-8 win over Indiana on Friday. Roberts finished the game 3-for-5 with two RBI, a pair of runs and a homer, while Brandon Eckerle also had a three-hit game for the Spartans, driving in a run. Kurtis Frymier picked up the win in relief, throwing a scoreless ninth. Chris Squires took the loss, coming on in relief of Drew Leininger, who allowed five earned runs in seven innings. Micah Johnson led the Hoosiers on offense, going 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI on a pair of doubles.

Kurt Lee’s three-run homer busted a 4-4 tie in the eighth, lifting Iowa to a 7-5 victory over Ohio State in Friday’s series opener. Tyson Blaser had two RBI for the Hawkeyes, while Mike McQuillan and Mike Corbeil each had a pair of hits. Zach Robertson earned the win in relief, not allowing an earned run in two innings, striking out two. Kevin Lee picked up his ninth save. Three Buckeyes tallied three hits in the game, led by Zach Hurley who scored two runs and drove in one, hitting his fourth triple of the season.
