ATLANTA – Chase Burnette drove in four runs and Jay Dantzler three Friday night to back the four-hit pitching of Deck McGuire, and Georgia Tech captured the opener of a key Atlantic Coast Conference series over Miami, 14-3, at Russ Chandler Stadium.
Tech (40-9, 18-7 ACC), ranked No. 6 in the nation, won its fifth straight game and reached 40 victories in a season for the 21st time in its history. More importantly, the Yellow Jackets moved into a tie for the ACC Coastal Division lead with the fifth-ranked Hurricanes (36-12, 18-7) and Virginia. Miami’s seven-game winning streak came to an end.

NC State 5 #8 Florida State 2
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Jake Buchanan overcame a shaky first two innings, and NC State played Dr. Long Ball to defeat fifth-ranked Florida State 5-2 Friday night in the first game of a three-game Atlantic Coast Conference series at Dick Howser Stadium.
The win, coupled with North Carolina’s rainout at Virginia, puts the Wolfpack in sole possession of eighth place in the overall ACC standings. The Tar Heels and Cavaliers will play a doubleheader on Saturday.

#16 Virginia Tech 11 Duke 3
BLACKSBURG, Va. – Junior southpaw Justin Wright turned in another strong pitching performance as No. 15 Virginia Tech opened a three-game Atlantic Coast Conference baseball series against Duke University with an 11-3 win at English Field on Friday.
In a game that was much closer than the score, Wright made a 2-0 lead hold up for seven innings until Tech’s bats finally provided some breathing room with a five-run, six-hit bottom of the seventh. The Tech left-hander held the Blue Devils to four hits – all singles – before giving up three runs in the eighth. He pitched 7.2 innings in improving his record to 7-3. Wright allowed three runs on six hits, while striking out three batters and walking two.

Wake Forest 9 #19 Clemson 5
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Austin Stadler struck out 11 and allowed just one run over 6.2 innings, while Wake Forest scored eight runs in the fourth inning to defeat Clemson 9-5 in the series opener on Friday night at Gene Hooks Field at Wake Forest Baseball Park.
The Demon Deacons improved to 14-35 and 5-20 in the Atlantic Coast Conference with the win, while the Tigers dropped to 32-18 overall and 14-11 in the ACC.
