Matyas earns weekly pitching accolades after recording a win and a save last week as Minnesota split a two-game series with No. 20 Kansas State and won two of three against Michigan, propelling the Gophers into a four-way tie for first in the Big Ten. Against the nationally ranked Wildcats on Wednesday, the right-hander struck out two without allowing a hit to close out a 3-0 victory, picking up his fifth save of the year. In Game 2 of Minnesota’s weekend series against the Wolverines, the junior pitched a perfect inning and took home the win in his team’s 5-4 come-from-behind victory. In the series finale, he struck out three in 1.2 innings of work, keeping his squad within striking distance in a 2-1 affair.
