ACC Weekend Preview (April 23rd-25th)

The ACC enters the stretch run this weekend as there are only four series left for each squad. The big series of the weekend sees the Virginia Tech Hokies heading down to Georgia Tech. The other two ACC series with ranked teams facing off are Miami (FL) visiting Florida State and UNC at Clemson. Maryland hosts Virginia, Boston College heads to NC State, and Duke heading to Wake Forest.

#28 Virginia Tech at #3 Georgia Tech

Virginia Tech heads down the Atlanta this weekend to take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Virginia Tech enters with a 26-13 overall record while being 9-9 in ACC play. Virginia Tech enters this weekend on a two game winning streak as they salvaged the final game of their series against Virginia and picked up a mid-week victory over Radford by a score of 16-6. The top hitter this season for the Hokies has been Austin Wates who enters this weekend with a .404 average with four homers and 31 RBI. Jesse Hahn has been the top pitcher this season for VT as he is 5-2 with a 2.81 ERA.

Georgia Tech enters the weekend with a 33-5 overall record while being 15-3 in ACC play. They are currently on a six game winning streak dating back to April 11th when they lost to Virginia. They are led on offense by Thomas Nichols who is hititng .421 with seven homers and driving in 30 runs. The top pitcher this season for the Yellow Jackets has been Deck McGuire who is 5-2 with a 2.84 ERA in nine appearances including two complete games.

Miami heads to instate rival Florida State in one of the most heated college baseball rivalries in the country. Miami enters with a 28-9 overall record while being 14-4 in the ACC. Miami’s top hitter is Yasmani Grandal who is hitting .429 with nine homers and 45 RBI. Daniel Miranda has been outstanding out of the bullpen for teh Hurricanes as he has a record of 3-1 with a 1.93 ERA in 20 appearances. Florida State’s offense is led by Tyler Holt who has a .375 average with nine homers and 33 RBI. Sean Gilmartin leads the rotation with a 6-2 record and a 3.09 ERA in nine starts.

Boston College at NC State

Boston College head down to North Carolina State to take on the Wolfpack in a key matchup between two schools that both need conference wins.
