Barrett Barnes (Texas Tech) has been named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Player of the Week, while Cole Green (Texas) has been tabbed the Pitcher of the Week for games of April 12-18, in voting by a panel of media covering the conference. It is Green’s second weekly accolade, and Barnes’ first honor.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Barrett Barnes, Texas Tech, 1B, Fr., 5-11, 195, Sugarland, Texas/Fort Bend Austin
Barnes led the Red Raiders to a 3-1 week with a road win at Dallas Baptist and a series victory at home against No. 11 Oklahoma. He hit .529 (9-for-17) in four contests, along with two home runs and five RBI. The Sugarland, Texas-native connected on two home runs versus the Sooners to increase his team-leading total to nine. Barnes drew three walks during the week and posted an on-base percentage of .600.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Cole Green, Texas, RHP, Jr., 6-0, 210, Coppell, Texas/Coppell
Green allowed just one hit and three walks while striking out four in a complete-game shutout of the Aggies. Individually, it was his fourth career complete game and second shutout overall. The 14-0 victory marked the first time the Longhorns have blanked the Aggies since a 3-0 win on May 17, 2003. Green improved to 8-0 on the season and continues to lead the nation in victories.
