I made the trip to Chestnut Hill again on Sunday to catch the rubber game between Boston College and Duke. Boston College won Game 1 on Saturday by a score of 5-3 before dropping the nightcap 5-4. Duke sent junior RHP Dennis O’Grady to the mound while Boston College countered with junior LHP Pat Dean.
Both pitches were on top of their game throughout the nine innings as all the scoring in the game took place in the fourth inning. Jake Lemmerman picked up a two out RBI single through the shortstop and third baseman hole to score Ryan McCurdy from second base to give the Blue Devils the 1-0 lead. The lead would not last long as Boston College would get a two out rally in the bottom of the fourth when freshman Matt Watson drove home Matt Hamlet from second base with a ringing single to tie the game. Two batters later, Mike Sudol brought Watson around from second to give BC the 2-1 lead.
Dean and O’Grady both would stay out of major trouble through the rest of the game. Dean pitched a complete game as he allowed six hits, no walks while only striking out two batters as he made his first start in two weeks. O’Grady also finished the game for the Blue Devils as he pitched a season high eight innings, allowing both runs, and striking out six batters.
Notes from the game
- Both teams did not receive any walks in the game.
- The game was played in a speedy 1 hour and 59 minutes.
- My next game will be Northeastern vs Hofstra on Friday afternoon in Brookline MA.
