Here is your ACC Recap for March 28th
#3 Georgia Tech 11 #17 North Carolina 8 (10 innings)
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Derek Dietrich’s two-run homer capped a five-run rally in the ninth inning, and tied the game at 8-8, before the third-ranked Georgia Tech baseball team (21-2, 8-1 ACC) scored three more in the 10th for an 11-8 win over No. 17 North Carolina (16-9, 2-7 ACC) Sunday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium.
The Jackets extended their win-streak to seven games, and swept North Carolina for the first time since the 2000 season.
#6 Florida State 9 Maryland 5
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Sixth-ranked Florida State (19-4, 6-3 ACC) completed the weekend series sweep with a 9-5 victory over Maryland (9-15, 2-7 ACC) Sunday afternoon on Mike Martin Field inside Dick Howser Stadium. With the win, the Seminoles climbed to within one game of Clemson who sits atop the Atlantic Division in the ACC.
"A good weekend for Florida State baseball," said head coach Mike Martin. "We needed this badly today; this keeps us now only one game back in our division. I was very pleased with the effort from our ball club this afternoon. I though that Hunter Scantling pitched okay. He showed a lot of poise. When you give up a home run on the first pitch of the ball game to keep his composure and shut the other club down for the next four innings you rally have to take your hat off to him. Tyler Everett to me, other than Tyler Holt, was the big part of the ball game. It was just beautiful pitching on his part. You’ve got to rally take your hat off to Tyler Everett."
#12 Miami (FL) 4 NC State 0
RALEIGH, N.C. – The 12th-ranked University of Miami baseball team earned its first road shut-out against an Atlantic Coast Conference opponent in four years with a 4-0 victory over NC State Sunday afternoon at Doak Field at Dail Park. Junior left-handed starter Eric Erickson earned the win, tossing 5 2/3 scoreless innings before relievers E.J. Encinosa and Eric Whaley combined to go the rest of the way and secure the series win for Miami.
The Hurricanes (16-7, 7-2 ACC) have now won each of their first three ACC series – including back-to-back road series at Duke and NC State (15-9, 3-6 ACC). The road shut out was the first for the `Canes against an ACC team since shutting out Duke, 3-0, on March 17, 2006 in Durham.
Boston College 2 Duke 1
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Junior Pat Dean and Duke’s Dennis O’Grady went toe-to-toe on the mound, but Dean allowed just one run in a complete game effort to lead the Boston College baseball team to a 2-1 win in the series finale against the Blue Devils Sunday at Eddie Pellagrini Diamond at Commander Shea Field.
Dean started the game by pitching 3.1 innings of perfect baseball. Duke got its lone run in the fourth inning when it pieced together three singles. Dean then went on to retire 10-straight hitters from the fifth to eighth innings.
