BATON ROUGE – The Tigers erased a 5-1 deficit with seven runs in the seventh inning, highlighted by a two-run single by first baseman Blake Dean, as No. 3 LSU defeated No. 13 Arkansas, 8-7, Saturday afternoon in Alex Box Stadium.

The Tigers (15-3, 1-1) will seek a series victory over Arkansas (13-4, 1-1) in the series finale Sunday at 1 p.m. in Alex Box Stadium. The game will be televised on Cox Sports Television (Cox cable channel 37 in Baton Rouge).

Florida 5 Mississippi State 4

In front of a season-high crowd of 4,823 fans, No. 6 Florida (15-3/2-0 SEC) snapped a 1-1 tie with a four-run seventh inning to clinch its weekend series with a 5-4 triumph over Mississippi State (11-8/0-2 SEC) on Saturday night at McKethan Stadium. The Bulldogs plated a pair of runs in the ninth before junior Kevin Chapman (Coral Springs, Fla.) had senior Luke Adkins (3-for-5) pop up in foul territory with the tying run on first base to end the game.

During a wild seventh frame, senior Matt den Dekker (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.)put the Gators in front with a two-out bunt single, was on the back end of a double steal in which sophomore Tyler Thompson (Tequesta, Fla.) (2-for-3) stole home and sophomore Preston Tucker (Tampa, Fla.) (2-for-4, three RBI) capped the rally with a two-run double. Sophomore Nick Maronde (Lexington, Ky.) (2-0) allowed one run and two hits over 1.2 innings to record the win, while Chapman battled through the ninth to secure his fourth save.

Alabama 8 Vanderbilt 2

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama baseball team got another strong outing from junior right-hander Jimmy Nelson and juniors Ross Wilson and Josh Rutledge combined for seven RBI as the No. 21 Crimson Tide defeated No. 16 Vanderbilt 8-2 to extend its winning streak to eight straight games.

Nelson (4-0) gave the Tide another solid outing on the mound, limiting the Commodores to two runs and seven hits in 6 2/3 innings for his fourth straight win. He struck out five and walked three before leaving the game after throwing 99 pitches.

Ole Miss 7 Kentucky 6

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Brett Huber picked up his first save of the season as the freshman held the Wildcats off the board in the ninth and gave No. 19 Ole Miss (15-4, 2-0 SEC) a 7-6 win over No. 20 Kentucky (14-5, 0-2 SEC) and a series win on the weekend.

Huber entered the game in the ninth with the Rebels holding to the one run lead and struck out the first two batters faced before issuing a walk to Kentucky lead-off hitter Chad Wright. Huber then got Lance Ray to fly out to left to give the Rebels the win.

South Carolina 10 Tennessee 7

Columbia, S.C. – Christian Walker’s two-out two-run triple in the bottom of the seventh inning broke a 5-5 tie and Jeffery Jones homered and drove in four runs as South Carolina defeated Tennessee 10-7 on Saturday afternoon at Carolina Stadium. The Gamecocks clinch the series and are now 15-4 and 2-0 in the SEC while the loss drops Tennessee to 10-9 and 0-2 in conference play. South Carolina owns a nine-game winning streak.
