#9 Clemson 6 Dayton 5 (10 innings)
Clemson, SC – Chris Epps scored on a wild pitch in the 10th inning to lift #9 Clemson to a 6-5 walkoff win over Dayton on Wednesday afternoon at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. The Tigers improved to 7-0, while the Flyers fell to 4-4. It was the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
The Flyers scored three runs in the seventh inning to take a 5-4 lead thanks in part to two Clemson errors, but Clemson tied the score with two outs in the eighth inning on a wild pitch. The Tigers scored again with two outs in the 10th inning to pull out the one-run win.
Maryland 4 Towson 2
COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Blair Delean recorded eight strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings and Maryland used timely hitting and base-running to defeat Towson 4-2 Wednesday at Shipley Field at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium.
The Terps scored two runs in the fourth to break a 1-1 tie. Adam Kolarek led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a single by Jack Cleary. A combination of two wild pitches and a balk eventually allowed Kolarek and Cleary to score as Maryland took a 3-1 lead.
Exhibition Games
Philadephia Phillies 13 Florida State 6
CLEARWATER, Fla. – For four and a half innings Florida State was living the high life inside Bright House Field, but after it was all said and done the Philadelphia Phillies proved to be too much as the two-time defending National League champs defeated the Seminoles 13-6 Wednesday night in Clearwater.
FSU’s Stuart Tapley and James Ramsey each hit a home run in the exhibition as both Seminoles finished the game with two hits a piece. Tyler Holt and Justin Gonzalez also registered a hit in the loss.
Florida Marlins 19 Miami (FL) 3
JUPITER, Fla. – The 10th-ranked University of Miami baseball team dropped its exhibition game against the Florida Marlins Wednesday afternoon, falling 19-3 at Roger Dean Stadium. Hanley Ramirez hit a three-run first inning homer and starter Ricky Nolasco tossed two shutout innings to lead the Marlins to victory.
David Villasuso, Chris Pelaez and Harold Martinez all finished with two hits on the afternoon for the `Canes. Villasuso hit a deep solo homer to left, Pelaez drove a ball off the centerfield wall and Martinez finished with a pair of singles. Villasuso drove in two runs, while Pelaez had UM’s other RBI.
Boston Red Sox 6 Boston College 1
FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Boston Red Sox defeated Boston College, 6-1, in an exhibition game Wednesday night in front of 4,577 fans at City of Palms Park.
Sophomore Spenser Payne drove in the only run for BC in the fifth inning. Senior Mike Sudol and freshman Philip Miclat had the other hits for the Eagles.
