Cal State Northridge’s Ryan Pineda and Long Beach State’s Steve Tinoco earned Big West Baseball Co-Field Player of the Week honors after outstanding performances at the plate.

Pineda led the Matadors to three wins against West Coast Conference teams by hitting 6-for-15 (.400) with four runs scored and three RBI.  He added four stolen bases in the three contests.

His biggest hit was a two-run walk-off home run in Sunday’s 7-6 come-from-behind win over Pepperdine.  He went 3-for-4 with a pair of stolen bases in the game.

Tinoco had a huge effort at the dish in three games, helping Long Beach State to a 2-1 record.  He hit 8-for-10 (.800) with three runs scored and five RBI.  Tinoco had six hits in eight at bats in a road sweep of Arizona as the 49ers won 8-7 and 10-3.

Tinoco produced the game-winning hit in Friday’s one-run victory as the 49ers completed a comeback.

BIG WEST BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK

UC Santa Barbara’s Mario Hollands garnered Big West Baseball Pitcher of the Week honors after an efficient and dominating effort in a win against San Jose State.

The southpaw tossed 105 pitches in eight innings of two-hit ball, allowing no runs in a 7-0 shutout of the Spartans in the opening game of a three-game series.

Hollands walked three and struck out four in his season debut.  He faced just three batters over the minimum and forced San Jose State to hit into a pair of double plays.
