HARRISONBURG, Va., Feb. 12, 2010 – Due to the recent heavy snowfalls in the Shenandoah Valley, James Madison has cancelled its season-opening baseball series scheduled for next weekend, Feb. 19-21, at Veterans Memorial Park. The games are unlikely to be rescheduled.
With the cancellation and previous movement of the Feb. 23 Radford game to March 30, JMU will now open its season at the Baseball at the Beach tournament in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Feb. 26-28. The Dukes will be looking at a challenging first four games with #12 Coastal Carolina Feb. 26 at 4 p.m., N.C. State Feb. 27 at 3:30 p.m., and #8 UC Irvine Feb. 28 at 11 a.m. Two days later, JMU will be in Charlottesville to take on #2 Virginia at 4 p.m.
With its first four home games pushed back, JMU is now looking at March 3 against Longwood at 4 p.m. as the first game contested in Veterans Memorial Park. Should that game also be affected by the weather, the home opener would be March 16 against Liberty.
