SacredHeart FAIRFIELD, CT – Sacred Heart baseball coach Nick Giaquinto announced the signing of four players to National Letters of Intent (NLI) for the 2011 season. The group includes a pair of switch-hitting catchers and two right handed pitchers.

Two of the players, Dan Perez and Kody Kerski, are both Connecticut natives, while Derick Horn and Robbie Maguire are from New York State.

Perez is a catcher at Seymour High School, who is also capable of playing other positions. He was named to the Naugatuck Valley All-League team after hitting .423 with five home runs. He also was selected to the CHSCA select junior and American Legion all-star teams.

Kerski pitches and plays infield for Crosby High School in Waterbury. He threw 75 innings his junior season and struck out 81 batters, while compiling a 2.78 ERA. At the plate, Kerski hit .337 and had 28 RBI. He was named to the All-Naugatuck Valley team his sophomore and junior seasons. His brother, Ken, pitched for Central Connecticut State University.

Horn, a catcher primarily, also plays corner infield and pitches for Ichabod Crane High School in Valatie, NY. He hit a hefty .475 his junior season and .400 as a sophomore. He was named to the Patroon Conference all-star team and was named to the Capital District Area Team.

Maguire is from Brooklyn and pitches for Xavier High School in Manhattan. He helped his team to the CHSAA Manhattan/Bronx championship and was 3-0 as a starter with one complete game.

"We are excited about adding two pitchers and two position players to our program during the early signing period," said Giaquinto. "Both Derick and Dan are middle of the order switch hitters with the ability to play multiple positions. Kody and Robbie have the ability to contribute as freshmen and eventually become conference-game pitchers for us."
