EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State baseball coach Jake Boss Jr. announced today that Jake Pearsall and Grant Newsome have accepted admission into MSU and will enroll in 2010 and join the baseball team for the 2011 season. Pearsall and Newsome join Trevor Cousineau, Joel Fisher, Jeff Kinley and Zach Wilkerson who committed to MSU in November.
Pearsall, a right-handed pitcher and infielder, is currently a senior at St. Johns High School where he will earn his fourth letter for coach Chris Cramer this spring. As a junior this past season, he collected all-district and all-conference honors and set the school record for season and career wins. He was named first-team all-conference as a sophomore in 2008.
Boss on Pearsall: "We are very excited that Jake has decided to accept his enrollment to Michigan State. He is a hard working right-handed pitcher with tremendous upside and will only get better and better because of his work ethic. He is a hard thrower and extremely competitive and will fit in very well with our system here at Michigan State."
Newsome currently attends Alpharetta (Ga.) High School where he is an outfielder for coach Steve Bohn. Newsome, a lead-off hitter, is a three-year letterwinner and two-time team captain that hit .323 last season and garnered second-team all-region honors.
Boss on Newsome: "Grant is a talented outfielder with a strong arm who came to our fall camp and performed very well. Having two senior outfielders on the current 2010 team, Grant will be able to come in and compete for a lot of playing time as a freshman beginning next fall. He is a young man with outstanding character and a fine student who will work hard and be a tremendous addition to this recruiting class."
