NationGuard ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.–The University of New Mexico baseball team put on a free baseball hitting clinic for children of service men and women in the National Guard at the Albuquerque Baseball Academy on Nov. 14. The Camp consisted of 38 campers, who were taught by the ABA staff as well as several Lobo baseball players. This is the second straight year that head coach Ray Birmingham has volunteered his services and the services of his team to those who help provide safety to the United States.

"This country’s military men and women are very important to me," said Birmingham. "I have the utmost respect for them. Anything we can do to make their lives better or their families lives better, Lobo baseball will do."

Lieutenant Colonel John Sedillo said that Lobo baseball and the camp was a perfect fit for the children of the service men and women in the National Guard.

"We wanted to present an award to Coach Birmingham and Lobo baseball in appreciation from the New Mexico National Guard site for supporting soldiers from New Mexico and their families that are deployed. We try to do as much as we can for our children and this turned out to be the perfect program to do for them."

Lobo baseball was presented with a plaque from the National Guard that reads:

"Presented to an American Patriot for support of our soldiers in the National Guard, who are defending freedom at home and around the world."

"The American Flag in this case is a replica of those worn by a National Guard Soldier. The Flag insignia is reversed to suggest the flag is flying in the breeze as the soldier moves forward."
