Delaware State signs two
Dover, Del. (Dec. 7, 2009) — Delaware State University head baseball coach J.P. Blandin has announced that two high school seniors have committed to attend DSU during the early signing period.
Blandin says Polytech (Del.) High School pitcher Matt McClain and outfielder Tyon Ore of Norfolk, Va., have signed to compete for the Hornets beginning in the 2010-11 season.
McClain, a right hander, posted a 6-3 record with a 1.69 earned run average as a junior at Polytech last season. He was also credited with two saves, 63 strikeouts and just 11 walks.
Samford Recruit Profile: Phillip Ervin
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford Baseball coaching staff recently released the names of the 10 players added to the program in the 2010 Signing Class in the early period. Today we continue the series of profiles on each of the players with a detailed article released on them with their full backgrounds leading to their arrival at Samford. Today’s baseball signee in the spotlight is Phillip Ervin.
Phllip Ervin (6-0, 185, OF/P, Leroy High School, Leroy, Ala.) is a versatile athlete having starred in high school for state championship baseball and football teams, as well as playing basketball in between for Leroy High School. He has tremendous power, hitting 11 home runs as a junior, as well as excelling on the mound with a fastball that reaches into the 90-plus mile-per-hour range.
South Florida signs six for 2010-2011 Season
TAMPA – University of South Florida head baseball coach and reigning BIG EAST Coach of the Year Lelo Prado has announced the signing of five high school recruits and one junior college transfer to National Letters of Intent for the 2010-11 academic year.
The class of 2010-11 includes: Kyle Ryan, LHP, Auburndale High School, Auburndale, Fla.; Thomas Dorminy, LHP, Alonso High School, Tampa, Fla.; James Ramsey, OF, Brandon High School, Brandon, Fla.; Kyle Waldrop, OF, Riverdale High School, Fort Myers, Fla.; Nick Gonzalez, LHP, Leto High School, Tampa, Fla.; Andrew Loynaz, RHP, Rollins College /American Heritage High School, Plantation, Fla.
Kansas signs Eight for 2010-2011 Season
LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas head baseball coach Ritch Price announced that the team has added eight student-athletes, who will all compete for the Jayhawks during the 2011 season. Outfielder Jordan Brown (Blue Springs, Mo.), outfielder/pitcher Mark Brown (Detroit, Mich.), infielder/catcher Ka’iana Eldredge (Honolulu, Hawaii), outfielder Alex Harris (Murphy, Texas), catcher Tom Hougland (Parker, Colo.), infielder/pitcher Conner Murray (Overland Park, Kan.), infielder Brad Salgado (Temecula, Calif.), and pitcher Tyler Smith (Cypress, Texas) have all committed to play baseball at KU.
Siena signs Six for 2010-2011 Season
Head Coach Tony Rossi announced that he received six binding National Letters of Intent during the recently completed early signing period. The class consists of two pitchers: Matt O’Kipney a southpaw from Liverpool, N.Y. and Jimmy Meindl a right-hander from Old Bridge, N.J., two outfielders: John Rooney from Syracuse, N.Y. and Tyler Bell from Cornwall, N.Y. and two infielders: shortstop Vinnie Citro from Montclair, N.J., and first baseman Kyle Kirshner from Cornwall, N.Y.
"I feel that this is an outstanding class which addresses our needs for the short and long term," Rossi said. "Assistant coach Jimmy Jackson did an outstanding job identifying and addressing those needs. This class is a nice complement to the players we currently have in our program and should help our program grow and enrich the Siena community."
Xavier adds four for 2010-2011 Season
CINCINNATI – The Xavier baseball team and head coach Scott Googins has announced that four future Musketeers have signed National Letters of Intent to play at XU beginning in the 2011 season. Tres Eberhardt (Indianapolis, Ind. – Brebeuf Jesuit), Patrick Jones (Cincinnati – Moeller), Scott Klever (Mason, Ohio – Mason) and Bo Slemons (Hubbard, Ohio – Hubbard) will be joining the team in the fall of 2010 and will look to make an immediate impact on the squad.
"We are very excited about our recent recruiting class and I feel we have definitely added depth to our team," said Googins following the recent signing period. "These four future Xavier student-athletes will make an impact on our program and will help build on the success of XU baseball in the future."
