SanFranMarathon The USF baseball team volunteered in several community service events this fall. Some highlights include the Nike Women’s Marathon and the FCA Pro and College Baseball Youth Challenge.

During the Nike Women’s Marathon the team shared their encouragement at the finish line where they handed out thousands of t-shirts to finishers. One lady commented on the team’s performance and said, "It really makes a difference to see familiar, friendly faces, and to be recognized and encouraged by volunteers. I had a great race, and the participation of you and your volunteers was no small part of that. Many thanks!"

Every year the Fellowship of Christian Athletes organization gets involved in the bay area community by holding the Pro and College Baseball youth Challenge. Our participants included sophomore pitcher Cameron Love, junior pitcher Matt Lujan, junior outfielder Tom Barry and sophomore catcher Mason Morioka. The players taught bay area kids about the fundamentals of baseball. Former USF alumni catcher Rigo Lopez directed the event and this is what he had to say, "The group was a great role model for the kids. They took this opportunity to make an impact in their lives with great pride and respect. I’m very proud of the way they carried themselves and represented the program with the immense dignity and utmost class. The guys were AWESOME."

Coach Giarratano expresses his gratitude, "Its extremely wonderful to see that our players give back to the community in the many community service projects they have been involved with this fall. The Nike Women’s Marathon and Pro and Youth baseball challenge help people see that athletes continue to care about the community."
